Good News Story - Caroline

alexleslie2

Caroline is a busy mum of three, who was looking for part time work to supplement the family income. She has a background in interior design, and was considering starting her own business, but  felt she needed some further training in order to update her skills. However, she had a bit of a dilemma, as updating herself will take some time, and she wanted to start bringing in some extra income as soon as possible.

AdaptNI encouraged Caroline to register with Go Succeed, with whom she has met and started working on her business plan. In the meantime, Caroline worked with her employment advisor to update her CV, practice interview techniques and start applying for jobs, as well as investigating what courses she could do to update her interior design skills. Her employment advisor also worked with the interview panels, when Caroline felt it necessary, to discuss and advise re reasonable adjustments for the interview process.

Caroline has been appointed as a room attendant at the new 5-star hotel, Dunluce Lodge, in Bushmills.  She has found the staff there to be very supportive and is enjoying being part of the team from the start of this organisation, which is due to open within the next few weeks.

Caroline and her employer still have support and advice from AdaptNI through our ‘WorkableNI’ project, which is in place to support both the employer and employee in securing and building a good working relationship and environment.

She has found the management there to be helpful and encouraging, in terms of supporting her as a deaf employee and in terms of her need to balance family and work demands.

Caroline is still in contact with Go Succeed and can continue to investigate the idea of her own business further down the line, if she decides that is what she would like to do, but for now, she is enjoying being part of a supportive organisation and having work that can also accommodate the needs of her family.

Congratulations Caroline on your success, it has been a pleasure and a privilege to work alongside you, and look forward to continuing to do so.
